    Several facts to consider.

    1. Karma – Joseph’s brothers sold him into slavery. Now their descendants are enslaved. God is visiting the sins of the fathers unto the third and fourth generations.
    2. Duty to return to the Promised Land – the Israelites had ample time to freely return to the land of Canaan after the seven-year period of famine in the land.
    3. Just as Lot, his wife, and daughters had to be forcefully led out of Sodom by the hand of the Angels of God. So, the Israelites had to be forcefully driven from Egypt by the Lord through his servant Moses.
    4. Lot’s wife’s heart remained in Sodom causing her to turn to a pillar of salt. Likewise, all the Israelites above 20 years of age (exception – Joshua and Caleb) longed for the amenities of Egypt and their bodies were left in the sands of the wilderness.
    5. Your church’s namesake, St. Paul, teaches and warns us that these Old Testament events are examples to us as he writes in 1 Corinthians 10.

    Shalom.
