As a political independent, it is annoying to see those in the religious community bad-mouthing those who do not align with their views, be it either left or right leaning. Mr. Jenks, you bill yourself as a “seasoned ecumenist,” nevertheless you seem rather polarizing in your views to those who do not agree with your political leanings. There is an unreconcilable schism in your own denomination, to wit, ELCA and LCMS., try uniting your own before undergoing a unification of other Protestant and Catholic faiths. A true ecumenist should be bringing opposite views together, negotiating and finding middle ground.
On another note, I may be prudish, but children should not be exposed to sexuality be it straight, gay, lesbian, transgender, or other aberration until nearing the age of puberty. Parents ought to be the source of their child’s sexual education, not teachers and educators who often have their own agenda.
