-Mary does not understand that the mother-son relationship is over. He is no longer the obedient 12 year old boy in the Temple being told to come home with momma and papa.

He’s filled with the Spirit and announced as the Lamb of God by John the Baptist.

Jesus’ family now consists of his disciples and followers.

Luke 8:19 Then Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see Him, but they were unable to reach Him because of the crowd. 20 He was told, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see You.” 21 But He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear the word of God and carry it out.”

He never refers to Mary as mother again until he (at the cross) places her spiritual and physical welfare to the care of the Beloved Disciple.
