    Well, Whoop-de-doo!

It is sad that several years earlier, in our public schools on the “good” side of town, even in your and my beloved Port Chester, that our young impressionable minds were being taught concepts of White Superiority. When students questioned the issue of slavery and segregation, we were told that these were steps in “civilizing” those brute savages who were cannibalizing one another in Africa. We were taught similarly about the Native American Indians. Imagine teaching us young children that slavery and placing indigenous people in reservations was a “good” thing…that these uncultured, uncivilized, and barbaric brutes needed to be civilized to live in our great society.

We were taught by teachers, parents, elders, and upstanding members of the community that those people living in poverty on the “south” side of the railroad tracks were there because they were lazy, slothful, unwilling to work (even though Negroes were not hired by local factories and business). The were criticized for not seeking to be educated, even though they were turned away from higher educational institutions.

I’ve stated it before, and I’ll state it again: Racism, prejudice, discrimination, and bigotry cannot be eliminated by the stroke of a pen. The hearts and souls of the populace must be changed and most importantly, the impressionable young minds of the next generation must not be indoctrinated with these evil concepts by parents, teachers, and elders.

    Shalom
